Vale Dr Ray Shuey AM APM

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dr Raymond Shuey AM APM, a highly respected and active member of many road safety organisations throughout Australasia. Ray was a former Victorian police officer and Assistant Commissioner for Traffic and Operations. Dr Shuey was a pioneer in road safety, best known for his signature achievement, Project Beacon, which revolutionised police training for responding to mental health and critical incidents.

Ray (pictured at right) contributed to the success of our 2022 annual conference. Ray was a great supporter of the NSWDTA in recent years, in particular to the executive committee as a mentor in road safety and driver training.

Amongst Ray’s road safety contributions was his very active role within the Australasian College of Road Safety of which NSWDTA are members. Ray was also passionate about road safety education, Internationally, developing and pioneering driver training programs in several Asian Countries.

Ray’s contributions to Road Safety and education will be a great loss to Australasia.

Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues during this time
