Impressive Speaker line-up for AGM

We are thrilled to have such an impressive and prestigious speaker line up for our 2022 AGM.

Dr. Beth Cheal

Beth Cheal graduated with a BAppSc(OT) and MAppSc(OT) at the University of Sydney. Beth has completed a PhD (USyd) converting DriveSafe DriveAware, a cognitive fitness to drive screen, into a touchscreen test for GPs and occupational therapist to use when screening drivers to identify those that may be at-risk due to a medical condition or age-related changes.

Beth is a driver-trained occupational therapist and licensed driving instructor who has worked in driver assessment and rehabilitation at the University of Sydney and in private practice since 2000 and is currently employed as a lecturer in occupational therapy, in the School of Health Sciences at Western Sydney University. Beth has coordinated training for occupational therapists, other health professionals and driving instructors in driver assessment and rehabilitation since 2006.

Mr Bernand Carlon

Bernard Carlon, he is currently the Chief, Centre’s for Road Safety and Maritime Safety. Bernard joined Transport for NSW in 2012 as the Director, Strategy and Policy and has led the Centre for Road Safety since 2015 and Maritime Safety since 2016. He is a board member of ANCAP and a member of the Austroads Safety Taskforce. Bernard has previously worked in Health, Police and Environment sectors at the executive level in policy, communications, program delivery and regulation.

Dr Natalie Watson-Brown

Dr Natalie Watson-Brown is a Research Associate at CARRS-Q. Her PhD research focused on the application of psychosocial theory to the complex young novice driver problem through an exploration of the development and training of higher-order driving skills to improve the safety of young drivers. Since completing her PhD in 2019, she has continued to focus her research on the cognitive processes of self-regulation that contribute to young drivers’ engagement in risky and non-compliant behaviours. During the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic her research examined the impact of the temporary suspension of static road-side random breath testing on drink driving behaviours. Her main areas of research interest include:

  • Young drivers
  • Education and training
  • Graduated licensing systems
  • Risky and non-compliant behaviours
  • Adolescent social and cognitive development
  • Other high-risk and vulnerable road users
  • Application of new theory to road safety

Dr Shuey is the founder and director of Strategic Safety Solutions, the international. advisor to CamSafe, Cambodia Safety Solutions and President of the International Safety Foundation Inc, a Not-for-Profit Charity.

Dr Ray Shuey AM., APM,

Dr Shuey is a specialist in international road safety with 41 years’ experience in policing including 14 years in the senior executive positions of Assistant Commissioner and acting Deputy Commissioner for Victoria Police, Australia.

He was the head of police road safety traffic management, administration, and enforcement. Since completing service in 2003, he has presented workshops and training programs to police and road safety professionals in over 20 countries. His many publications include

  • Crash Investigation,
  • Speed Management,
  • Intelligent Enforcement,
  • Effective Law Enforcement Strategies,
  • Helmet Wearing,
  • Drink Driving,
  • Data Systems Management,
  • Benchmarking International Road Policing in Low and Middle-Income Countries, and
  • International Road Policing Assessment Program (IRPAP).
