What a winter! As we try to put the Covid restrictions behind us and move forward, here’s an update on your Association’s planning and management.
AGM rego coming soon
One more time! Save the date, Sunday 28 November, to meet at Canada Bay Club for lunch, roundtable discussions and our AGM agenda. The Committee voted not to have a Virtual AGM, with the belief a face to face meeting would be more beneficial to so many new Members and is long overdue.
At mid-September, the Club accepted our booking with hopes it will be open and Sydney restrictions will be lifted but be aware, Club protocols will be in place for social distancing and whatever vaccination requirements prevail.
You must register for the AGM as $10 for Members (excl booking fee). Members who registered earlier this year are STILL registered to attend and will be contacted to see whether they still plan to attend. NON-Members are welcome as $150/pp, which includes 2022 NSW DTA Membership, and must complete a Registration to be published via Facebook in October.
Nominations candidates will have a brief bio posted in our October email to all Members. Further notifications follow in October.
Calling on your help
With two extensions for Committee elections, we expect several Members to resign after long and helpful service. It’s important to get your nominations in as soon as possible as all 7 positions become vacant. Any full financial Member can be nominated – yourself or someone else – and be willing to serve through 2022 from this November. A meeting of the new Committee takes place following the AGM to plan and designate officers.
Nomination candidates will receive Guidelines on what is expected for service, including Meeting plans, initiatives, travel allowances and more. Please complete and submit by 25 November 2021 the online 2021 Committee Nomination.
Much more in the works
While we’re working on our 2021 Association Goals & Initiatives, ambitious plans to create more professional development resources have been underway. A number of topics for eBooks and guides are in final stages to be unveiled at the AGM and will be available on our Members Only pages.
Our first title, The Cost of Doing Business, is a well-researched topic, authored by former President Anthony Cope, to show instructors how they should be planning or running business overheads and pricing lessons accordingly.
Additional topics are planned for both eBooks and regional workshops, including
- Payment facilities: freedom vs profit-funnel
- FAQs every driving instructor should have
- Special needs or disabilities in driving instruction
- Older Driver Assessors: champions & challengers
- Insurance topics explored: How Australia works
Thank you to the Squeaky Wheel Team! A small sub-committee was set up to help with specific initiatives, including the first eBook for insights and editing as well as creating a Risk Management Plan. These are committed Members ready to lend a hand and likely will run for Committee. Welcome and thank you, Danny Meisels, John Ransome-Haberley and Matthew Philpott!
Successful alliance with PCYC for SDC delivery
NSW DTA was successful in its partnership with NSW PCYCs as provider of qualified Driving Facilitators and Coaches for their SDC delivery. They are one of many SDC providers state-wide and offer over 60 PCYC venues and adjunct facilities which deliver the course. Driving Instructors may register to work with PCYC SDC in addition to any service providers they currently work with.
All Driving Instructors who wish to teach SDC through PCYC must be a NSW DTA Member. We are also vigorously enlisting help from regional DIs where more trainers are needed. Drop a note: admin@nswdta.com.au
This is not the finish line yet
Even with the NSW Health letter Members received on 15 September with a link to the actual memorandum (email) from NSW Health that specifically stated ‘Driving lessons are allowed… [with provisions explained], this is a never-ending story. We can only say ‘stay tuned’ while we update any developments via our website, social and email.
Thank you to all the people who have looked to NSW DTA for support and info. It means we make a difference in our obligations and commitment to Instructor Members and the public. It hasn’t been easy, but with a team of Committee volunteers and a part-time Admin Manager, we’ve managed to help make a difference during these trying times.
Can you help?
Our Association has been built on a lot of hard work from very committed people dedicated to bringing safer, more skilled drivers to our roads. If you play a role in this goal, talk to us.
Instructors, sponsors, friends, we want your support. Get in touch. We listen to how you can make our next generations of drivers more responsive, responsible and reliable.
Authored by Karen Robbins, NSW Admin Support, with full Committee review and approval.
